The Center for Education and Lifelong Learning of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki welcomes you to the 7th Thessaloniki International Media Summer Academy, a 60 -hour course via Face-to-face.
Each summer, THISAM brings together an impressive group of people passionate about journalism and its ability to influence positive change. Attendees include early career journalists, students, media entrepreneurs, scholars, leaders of NGO’s and media industry leaders. It is the interactive nature of THISAM that makes it such an exciting opportunity for attendees, especially students who come from around the world to attend. Throughout the week innovative ideas are shared and new business strategies developed. Mentoring and advising happens across career-level. The focus is on creating a hands-on, interactive, interdisciplinary experience.
The Scientific Director of the Programme is Nikolaos Panagiotou Professor Journalism and Mass Communication Aristotle University Thessaloniki
Nikolaos Panagiotou is professor at the School of Journalism & Mass Media Communication, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Since 2019, he directs the Peace Journalism Laboratory and serves as Scientific Director of the programme. He is a recognized DAAD Scholar (Deutsche Welle), Chevening Scholar, and recipient of multiple international fellowships. His work has been internationally supported: notably, the Google Digital News Initiative funded his innovative research on digital communication in media. He leads the Thessaloniki International Media Summer Academy, contributes to several international media networks (War & Media Network, Digital Communication Network Global), and acts as strategic advisor on journalist safety and media integrity.

Thessaloniki International Media Summer Academy (THISAM) gathers a diverse and dynamic group of individuals who are deeply committed to journalism and its potential to drive positive change. Participants include young journalists, university students, media innovators, academics, NGO representatives, and professionals from the media industry.
What sets THISAM apart is its highly interactive format, offering a unique and engaging experience—especially for students who travel from around the world to take part. Over the course of the week, participants exchange forward-thinking ideas, explore new business models, and engage in cross-generational mentoring and guidance. The program emphasizes a practical, interdisciplinary, and hands-on approach to learning.
Upon completion of the course, participants will:
-Acquire in-depth knowledge and training on important topics and cutting-edge developments in Media, Communication and Journalism.
-Be part of a major forum where current issues and research developments are presented and discussed by distinguished international scholars.
-Gain access to an active international academic and practitioner community dedicated to innovative learning approaches.
The program is addressed to students, researchers and professionals having the following background:
-Bachelor/ Master students of Journalism, political science, international relations, etc.
-PhD Students of Journalism, Political Science, International relations etc.
-Professionals from media and other related organisations who need a deeper understanding on the issues to be addressed.

THISAM will be provided through lectures and workshops. All participants must to have physical presence in the venue. All participants have to submit a number of group and individual projects.
The Thessaloniki International Media Summer Academy (THISAM) is an intensive, interdisciplinary program designed to explore contemporary issues in journalism and media. Each year, it brings together students, early-career professionals, media innovators, scholars, and NGO leaders from around the world to engage in a dynamic learning environment. The 2025 program focuses on the intersection of journalism, ethics, innovation, and technology. Topics include media literacy, AI in journalism, mobile and podcast storytelling, global media regulation, leadership in the digital newsroom, and the ethical challenges of reporting in the AI era. Through expert-led lectures, interactive workshops, and hands-on projects, participants develop critical skills in digital content creation, ethical decision-making, AI tools, and cross-cultural communication. The academy emphasizes mentorship, collaborative learning, and real-world application, culminating in group project presentations. THISAM fosters a global perspective and empowers participants to become agile, ethical, and forward-thinking media professionals capable of driving positive change in the industry.
The course provides participants with:

Obligations of Trainees:
For the successful completion of the programme, the participants should:
-Have attended all the teaching units.
-Absences may not exceed 10% of the scheduled training hours.
-Have paid all the tuition fees before the beginning of the training.
Rights of Trainees:
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.
During the project trainees will be supported in any topic related to the educational material and have access to the information provided from the speakers
After successful completion of the program, participants receive a Certificate of Training, which is issued by the Center for Education and Lifelong Learning of the AUTH and signed by the President of the Center.
