  • Σύντομη Περιγραφή

    The program focuses on the in-depth understanding of Anglophone literary multimodal storytelling with reference to a variety of multimodal narratives (print and digital). It is taught asynchronously in English and offers feedback and guidance, while it provides learners the opportunity of flexible attendance and self-paced learning (asynchronous teaching and activities; asynchronous communication and presentations).

    The Center for Training and Lifelong Learning (KEDIVIM) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) welcomes you to the educational program entitled “Multimodality: Print and Digital Anglophone Narratives“, lasting 100 teaching hours, which will be held ONLINE and will be implemented using the ASYNCHRONOUS method.

    The Scientific Director of the program is Dr. TATIANI RAPATZIKOU (Professor AUTh)

    The program is also taught by: Dr.Vassilis Delioglanis (Postdoctoral Researcher); Dr.Despoina Feleki (Postdoctoral Researcher), Evgenia Kleidona (PhD Candidate), Dr.Thomas Mantzaris (Postdoctoral Researcher), Paschalia Mitskidou (PhD Candidate), Maria Virginia Tsikopoulou (PhD Candidate).

    End of program: 3 May 2026

    Application start and end dates: STARTS 24 February 2026 & ENDS 6 March 2026

    Duration: 100 teaching hours

    Cost: 200 euros

    Installments for non-students:

    The sum can be paid in two instalments in the Bank account whose details will be shared with the participants:

    1st installment: Mar. 9, 2026 €100

    2nd installment: Mar. 23, 2026, €100

    Advance payment: There is none.

    Discount policy provided:

    The program offers two (2) full scholarships depending on the number of registrants to the program: for more than five (5) registrants, one (1) scholarship is offered; for more than ten (10) registrants, two (2) scholarships are offered.

    To be considered for a tuition waiver, applicants are required to submit a brief motivation letter in English (200-400 words), a transcript of grades from the BA and/or MA programs already completed as well as their most recent Tax statement (E1). The grade transcripts and E1 form can be in either Greek or English.

    If necessary, shortlisted applicants will be invited for a brief online interview.

    A training certificate is provided of 3,5 ECTS

    Applications are accepted from 24 February 2026 to 6 March 2026.

    Thematic areas: multimodal storytelling, anglophone print and digital literary narratives, hands-on practice with digital apps for story creation.

  • Στόχος του προγράμματος

    Aim of the programme

    The program aims to:

    ·Approach multimodality in print-based and electronic/digital Anglophone narratives;

    ·Familiarize participants with basic theoretical concepts (interactivity, hypetextuality, digital participatory environments etc);

    ·Understand the impact of multimodality on narrative and reading practices as well as on cognitive skills;

    ·Expose participants to innovative/experimental forms of print and digital Anglophone narration;

    ·Comprehend the development of hybrid narrative models;

    ·Reinforce interdisciplinarity as regards the blend of literary narration and digital innovation;

    ·Develop critical thinking on the understanding, reading, and analysis of digital narratives — such as interactive (Twine application), hypertextual, locative (mobile/locative narratives & apps), virtual reality, interactive games, digital applications (Java, Flash, Python, Twitter — and multimodal texts;

    ·Explore new trends in the field of Anglophone multimodal print and digital narratives;

    ·Acquire knowledge and digital skills that can be implemented in various professional contexts (authors, scholars, educators).

    Objective of the program

    ·Commentary on case studies

    ·Pariticipation in weekly acitivities using the digital tools taught as part of the programme

    ·Participation in quizzes

    ·Organization and recording of audio project presentations

    ·Completion of self-assessment form

    ·Organization/submission of project work plan

    ·Organization/submission of bibliography to be used

    ·Learning to use MLA formatting (basic)

    ·Creation of personal multimodal narratives using the digital tools presented in the teaching modules

    ·Writing a reflective essay

  • Μαθησιακά Αποτελέσματα

    Upon completion of the course, participants will acquire the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    Knowledge:

    ·Acquire a wide range of theoretical information on the concept of multimodality in Anglophone print and digital literary narratives;

    ·Acquire knowledge on cutting-edge fields (apps/GPS tools, virtual reality, Twine interactive narrative, narratives whose composition derives from programming languages Python, Flash, Java) and connect them with digital literary narratives;

    ·Acquire basic knowledge on participation in digital platforms with the aim to comprehend complex interactions that take place among their active members.

    Skills:

    ·Acquire knowledge and practical skills with attention to twentieth-century experimental Anglophone literary writing so as to understand the innovative forms of digital narratives that have appeared in the twenty-first century;

    ·Combine the above knowledge so as to perform complicated tasks (on reading and interactivity) in the field of digital and print multimodal narratives;

    ·Acquire specialized skills (interdisciplinary methodology) to integrate them in fields such as education and creative writing.

    Abilities:

    ·Autonomous design of digital multimodal narratives and initiatives in order to apply them to educational and creative contexts.

  • Σε ποιους απευθύνεται

    Since the program combines literary writing with digital technology and other media, it is addressed to:

    ·alumni/a of various departments with a background in the Humanities & Liberal Arts (indicative domains: Greek and foreign literatures and cultures, pedagogy, fine arts, film, journalism and media)

    ·content writers, creative practitioners, and visual artists with an interest in storytelling.

    ·educators of all levels who are interested in multimedia narratives, image-text relations, and digital media applications.

  • Κριτήρια επιλογής

    Interested parties submit an application online on the website of the Center for Training and Lifelong Learning of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

    Applications for participation can be submitted by: 6 March 2026.

    The Application must be accompanied by the following supporting documents(The following documents would need to be submitted to this email: multimodality@enl.auth.gr):

    1.Personal CV (Greek or English)

    2.Motivation letter (preferably in English, 200-400 words approx)

    3.For degree holders, a transcript of undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses is required

    4.Certificate of English language skills (B2 or above)

    5.Certificate of digital skills (optional)

    Prerequisites for participation in the program:

    ► Internet access

    ► Possession of personal e- mail

    ► Basic computer skills

    Selection will be made based on priority order.

    In the event that the minimum required number of trainees is not reached, KEDIVIM reserves the right to change the start date of the program or even cancel it.

    Teaching Unit 1: Introduction to the program

    The specific unit aims at introducing participants to the notion of multimodality by touching upon various examples of innovative print and hypertextual narratives from the Anglophone literary production.

    ·Time duration for the completion of Unit 1 tasks: 14 hours (per participant)

    Teaching Unit 2: Multimodality and Print Textuality: Innovative Book Surfaces

    This unit aims at exploring the notion of multimodality in the context of print Anglophone literary narratives.

    ·Instructors: Thomas Mantzaris, Maria Virginia Tsikopoulou

    ·Time duration for the completion of Unit 2 tasks: 15 hours (per participant)

    Teaching Unit 3: Multimodality and Electronic Textuality

    This unit aims at exploring how electronic technologies contribute towards the creation of multimodal narratives with emphasis placed on innovative examples from the Anglophone digital literary production. Attention will also be paid to how these narratives can be applied to education.

    ·Time duration for the completion of Unit 3 tasks: 15 hours (per participant)

    Teaching Unit 4: Multimodality and Spatiality: VR and Locative Media Narratives

    This unit aims at exploring how VR and locative media electronic technologies contribute towards the creation of multimodal narratives by resorting to the use of open access tools.

    ·Time duration for the completion of Unit 4 tasks: 15 hours (per participant)

    Teaching Unit 5: Multimodality and Online Communities

    This unit aims at exploring how participation and agency are formulated in the context of online environments with attention also paid to the dynamic synergies that develop between the members of online fan communities. In addition, this unit will explore certain popular multimodal digital narratives.

    ·Time duration for the completion of Unit 5 tasks: 15 hours (per participant)

    Teaching Unit 6: Creative project completion, Feedback, project submission, project presentations

    This unit aims at providing all necessary feedback to the course participants for the completion and effective submission of their final projects. Participants will also be invited to present and share their final projects with the course community (in two parts).

    The program provides to the course participants:

    ·3,5 ECTS credits (corresponding to 100 h plan per person) with the completion of the course;

    ·Opportunities for weekly participation in online discussion forum and multimodal hands-on activities via the Elearning platform;

    ·Feedback and guidance (on an individual and group basis) by the course instructors.

  • Υποχρεώσεις και Δικαιώματα Εκπαιδευομένων

    A. Trainee Obligations:

    1. Participation in the KEDIVIM AUTH programs implies full acceptance of the program’s Study Guide and the Internal Operating Regulations of KEDIVIM AUTH .
    2. The presence of trainees in educational programs is mandatory. In programs implemented in person, as well as in those implemented using the modern distance learning method, attendance is generally mandatory and the absence limit cannot exceed 10% of the scheduled training hours. The attendance of asynchronous education is implemented according to the study schedule defined by each program.
    3. To successfully complete the program, participants must:
    4. the percentage of absences should not exceed 10% of the scheduled training hours,
    5. have successfully completed the prescribed examination,
    6. have paid the full tuition fees by…

    B. Trainee Rights:

    1. Trainees are informed by the Administrative Support Department of KEDIVIM about any kind of information related to the operation of the Center.
    2. Trainees are supported electronically through the educational platform by their instructors , within the framework of the educational process, to resolve questions and provide clarifications related to the thematic modules of the program.
    3. Trainees have the right to request the interruption of the program and the refund of tuition fees, in accordance with the provisions of article 12.9 of the Internal Operating Regulations of KEDIVIM AUTH .
    4. The work of the trainees is protected under intellectual property provisions.
  • Πιστοποιητικό

    After successful completion of the program, participants are awarded a Certificate of General Training , which is issued by the Center for Training and Lifelong Learning of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and signed by the President of KEDIVIM.

    Participants who attended, but did not complete the entire program, have the option of being provided with a Certificate of Attendance.
