  • Short Description

    The Center for Education and Lifelong Learning of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki welcomes you to the 9th International Summer School: Medical Law and Bioethics “VULNERABLE POPULATIONS IN HEALTHCARE”, a 42-hour course which will take place in hybrid format (on-site and remotely via ZOOM platform)

    The Director of the Programme is Triantafyllia (Lina) Papadopoulou, Professor, Faculty of  Law, AUTh, Vice-Director of the Laboratory for the Research of Medical Law and Bioethics.

    Duration: 42 hours (40h of teaching + 2h of exams)

    Cost: €180,00

    Discount: There is an early bird fee for registrations until the 30th April 2024. There is also a discount for students.

  • Aim and objectives

    The aim of the program is to analyze Τhe healthcare of vulnerable populations: challenges and perspectives, Health Inequalities: Distribution of Health Resources, New Technologies in Health: Access and Restrictions, Vaccination of Immigrants, The Right to Access to Healthcare for Undocumented Immigrants, Children’s victimization and the challenges for caring for them without causing more harm, Forced Sterilization of Mentally Ill Persons, Hunger Strike in Prison: Legal and Bioethical Considerations, Health vulnerability as a refoulement roadblock?, Challenges in Healthcare for the Elderly, Palliative Care for Older Persons, Anti-LGBTQI+ Legislation & Health Inequity, Workshop: Access to Medically Assisted Reproduction for Trans People, Minors Access to Medically Assisted Reproduction, Medical Care of Disabled and Seriously Ill Children, Clinical trials of New Medicines to Pregnant Women and Neonates, AI in Healthcare: Risks and Benefits for Vulnerable Population, Health Care Services for Homeless People, Improve Healthcare Access for the Roma People, Can a Doctor Refuse Treatment to HIV-Infected Patients?, etc.

  • Learning Outcomes

  • Target audience

    The program is addressed mainly to graduates of Law & Medicine Schools as well as any other School with relevant interests (Biology, Theology, Dentistry, Philosophy, etc.) and generally to adults who deal with these topics. Selection shall be made in order of priority.

    Prerequisites for participation in the programme:

    • Internet access for the participants who will attend the courses remotely

    The programme will take place in hybrid format (on-site and remotely via ZOOM platform).

    Obligations of Trainees:

    1. Participation in the programs of K.E.DI.BI.M. of the AUTH implies full acceptance of the program’s Study Guide and the Internal Regulation of Operation of the K.E.DI.BI.M. of the AUTH.
    2. The presence/attendance of trainees in the educational programmes is mandatory. In the programmes which are realized in physical presence, as in those implemented using the modern method of tele-education, the study is generally mandatory and the limit of absences cannot exceed 10% of the prescribed training hours. The monitoring of asynchronous education is implemented according to the study schedule set by each programme.
    3. For the successful completion of the programme, the participants should:
    4. not exceed 10% absences of the scheduled training hours
    5. have passed the exams
    6. have paid the tuition fee by the start of the program.

    Rights of Trainees:

    1. Trainees are informed by the Department of Administrative Support of K.E.DI.BI.M. for all kinds of information related to the operation of the Centre.
    2. Trainees are supported electronically through the educational platform by the trainers, as part of the educational process, to resolve questions and provide clarifications related to the thematic units of the programme.
    3. Trainees have the right to apply for the interruption/termination of their programme attendance and a refund of their tuition fees, in accordance with the provisions of par. 12.9 hereof.
  • Certificate

    After successful completion of the program, participants receive a Certificate of Specialised Training, which is issued by the Center for Education and Lifelong Learning of the AUTH and signed by the President of the Center.

    Participants, who have attended but not successfully completed the program, will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.

PARTICIPATION COST

The tuition fees amount to EUR 100,00 for students of all levels and EUR 150,00 for jurists and health professionals for entries up to April 30th, 2024 and to EUR 130,00 and EUR 180,00 respectively for entries up to May 31st, 2024.
