  • Short Description

    The Center for Education and Lifelong Learning of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki welcomes you to the 7th International Summer School: Medical Law and Bioethics “Patient autonomy: legal, medical and ethical considerations”, a 40-hour course, which will take place in hybrid format (on-site and remotely via ZOOM platform)

    The Director of the Programme is Elisavet Symeonidou-Kastanidou, Professor, Law School, AUTh, Director of the Laboratory for the Research of Medical Law and Bioethics.

     

    Application

    Candidates submit the application form online.

    Each application has to be accompanied by the following document or copies:

  • Aim and objectives

    The aim of the programme which is co-organized with the National Bioethics and Technoethics Commission is to analyzephysician-patient relationship: paternalism vs autonomy, the theory of autonomy: will, reason and consent, patient autonomy and neurosciences, the Hippocratic Oath and the Principles of Medical Ethics, fundamentals on patient autonomy and informed consent, patient autonomy and data privacy -Legal framework for health and genetic data, practicing the medical profession nowadays: challenges and perspectives, autonomy in clinical research, reproductive autonomy, the right to abortion, patient autonomy and the right not to know, ECtHR jurisprudence, patient autonomy at the end of life: post-mortem transplantation, patients’ autonomy at the end of life: euthanasia, parental refusal of blood transfusion for minors, if compulsory vaccination jeopardizes autonomy, patient autonomy in highly technological care contexts (personalized medicine, digital technology, etc), refusal of medical treatment, etc.

  • Learning Outcomes

  • Target audience

    The programme is addressed mainly to graduates of Law & Medicine Schools as well as any other School with relevant interests (Biology, Theology, Dentistry, Philosophy, etc.) and generally to adults who deal with these topics.

  • Selection criteria

    Selection shall be made by point award.

    Prerequisites for participation in the programme:

    • Internet access for the participants who will attend the courses remotely

    The programme will take place in hybrid format (on-site and remotely via ZOOM platform).

    The above will be provided to the participants before the start of the programme.

  • Liabilities

    Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.

    For the successful completion of the programme, the participants should:

    • have attended all the teaching units. Absences may not exceed 10% of the scheduled training hours.
    • Have passed the exams, which will be conducted via multiple choice exam questions.

    Participants, who have attended but not completed successfully, will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.

PARTICIPATION COST

The tuition fees amount to 100€ for students of all levels and 150€ for jurists and health professionals for entries up to April 30th, 2022 and to 130€ and 180€ respectively for entries up to May 31st, 2022.

Discount:

There is an early bird fee for registrations until the 30th April 2022.

There is also a discount for students.
