  • Short Description

    The Center for Education and Lifelong Learning of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki welcomes you to the educational program entitled <Ophthalmological Surgical-Experimental workshops>, (54teaching hours), which will be held at the Laboratory Of Experimental Ophthalmology and will be implemented with physical presence& remotely with a synchronous & asynchronous teaching method. The program provides 3 ECTS.

    The program has extended theoretical approaches with presentations for the ophthalmological surgical procedures, including materials, machines and surgical methods in Ophthalmological diseases requiring interventions. This includes in more detail, the demonstration of slides and videos and the study of articles and publications in the field of relevant topics of surgical Ophthalmology. Hands-on practice is the other part of the training and includes performing the most common ophthalmological procedures at experimental level on porcine eyes.

    The Scientific Director of the program is Professor Mr. Tsinopoulos Ioannis, Director of the Laboratory of Experimental Ophthalmology and the Academic Director is the Professor Mr. Karampatakis Vasilios, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

  • Aim and objectives

    Experimental Surgeries aim to improve learning with extended theoretical analyses and further improve the abilities of the trainees for the application of surgical techniques in ophthalmology. It has been demonstrated that these training provide the opportunity for the development and advancement of surgical skills, as well as offering conditions that closely resemble those of the real operating room.

    Training in experimental conditions prepares and facilitates participants in familiarizing themselves with the steps of the most common surgical techniques

  • Learning Outcomes

    Knowledge

    Through training, trainees gain familiarity with the steps of Ophthalmic surgery and can enter the real operating room with greater ease.

     

    Skills

     

    During the training, participants become familiar with and acquire skills in handling the special machines and tools used in the operating room, acquiring movement coordination skills and gaining ease of manipulations in the small surgical field using the surgical microscope.

     

    Competencies

     

    Surgical skills are acquired and improved during training, so that the trainee develops a set of abilities that allows him to perform eye surgeries more safely.

    The Application must be accompanied by the following supporting documents:

    1. A copy of Medical Degree

    Prerequisites for participation in the program:

    • Internet access

    • Possession of a personal e-mail

    • Good knowledge of English

    • Medical degree

    The selection will be made by interview

     

    In the event that the minimum required number of trainees is not gathered, KEDIVIM reserves the right to change the start date of the program or even cancel it.

    7. Description of modern intraocular lenses in cataract
    8. Hydrodynamics in eye surgery
    9. Description of common surgical procedures
    10. Highlights of important critical issues
    11. Presentation of modern techinques
    12. Analysis of wide range of surgical diseases
    13. Video demonstration
    14. Online communication with exercises – quizzes – improvement comments – guidance
    15. Personal home study

    1. Basic instructions and demonstration of videos and slides
    2. Familiarization with the tools

    5. Instructions and familiarization with the specific of the machines
    6. Exercises by phases of each operation
    7. Exercises on complete operations
    8. Exercises on combined operations
    9. Extended practice with personalized monitoring and targeted exercises
    10. Criticism – Impressions – Improvements – Feedback of the trainees
    11. Completion of the program – Feedback on acquired knowledge on the theoretical and practical level

  • Liabilities

    Obligations of Trainees:

    1. Participation in the programs of K.E.DI.BI.M. of the AUTH implies full acceptance of the program’s Study Guide and the Internal Regulation of Operation of the K.E.DI.BI.M. of the AUTH.
    2. The presence/attendance of trainees in the educational programs is mandatory. In the programmes that are realized in physical presence, as in those implemented using the modern method of tele-education, the study is generally mandatory, and the limit of absences cannot exceed 10% of the prescribed training hours. The monitoring of asynchronous education is implemented according to the study schedule set by each programme.
    3. For the successful completion of the program, the participants should:
    4. not exceed 10% absences of the scheduled training hours

     

    Rights of Trainees:

    1. Trainees are informed by the Department of Administrative Support of K.E.DI.BI.M. for all kinds of information related to the operation of the Centre.
    2. Trainees are supported electronically through the educational platform by the trainers, as part of the educational process, to resolve questions and provide clarifications related to the thematic units of the programme.
    3. Trainees have the right to apply for the interruption/termination of their program attendance and a refund of their tuition fees in accordance with the provisions of par. 12.9 hereof.
    4. Students’/Trainees’ work is protected under the Copyright Regulations/Provisions.

  • Certificate

    After successful completion of the program, participants are awarded a Certificate of Specialized Training, which is issued by the Center for Training and Lifelong Learning of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and signed by the President of KEDIVIM.

     

    Participants who attended, but did not complete the entire program, have the option of being provided with a Certificate of Attendance.

PARTICIPATION COST

The total cost of the tuition is 1250 euros

No deposit is required and the program does not have the option of installments.

The deadline to deposit the amount is 31/12/2025 and the participants will receive an email with the bank account information of ΕΛΚΕ.
