The Center for Education and Lifelong Learning of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki welcomes you to the educational program entitled <Ophthalmological Surgical-Experimental workshops>, (54 teaching hours), which will be held at the Laboratory Of Experimental Ophthalmology and will be implemented with physical presence & remotely with a synchronous & asynchronous teaching method. The program provides 3 ECTS.
The program has extended theoretical approaches with presentations for the ophthalmological surgical procedures, including materials, machines and surgical methods. This includes in more detail, the demonstration of slides and videos and the study of participants on relevant topics by the provision of the relevant book and other resources. Hands-on practice is the other part of the training and includes performing the most common ophthalmological procedures at experimental level on porcine eyes. Special emphasis is given in single and combined cataract surgeries
Experimental Surgeries aim to learn and familiarize participants with the surgical techniques.
The purpose of the program is to train mainly residents in ophthalmology in surgical techniques so that they can effectively and safely respond to the demands of eye surgery. The experimental surgery events, up to three each year, constitute an important arm in the scientific and surgical training of the participants.
The Scientific Director of the program is Professor Mr. Tsinopoulos Ioannis, Director of the Laboratory of Experimental Ophthalmology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Experimental Surgeries aim to improve learning with extended theoretical analyses and further improve the abilities of the trainees for the application of surgical techniques in ophthalmology. It has been demonstrated that these training provide the opportunity for the development and advancement of surgical skills, as well as offering conditions that closely resemble those of the real operating room. Pre-training in experimental conditions prepares and facilitates participants in familiarizing themselves with the steps of the most common surgical techniques as well as in familiarizing themselves with the machines, microsurgical tools and the particularly small surgical field, in conditions of applications with a surgical microscope.
By completing the Training Program, participants will be able and familiar with the steps of surgery in Ophthalmology and can enter the actual operating room with greater ease. Surgical skills are acquired and improved during training, so that the trainee can develop a set of skills that allows him to more safely perform the surgical procedure in real operating room conditions.
The program is addressed at medical graduates intending specialized in Ophthalmology, residents in ophthalmology, as well as specialists in Ophthalmology.
Application Form can submit those who have: medical degree, residency in ophthalmology, but also specialists in Ophthalmology.
