INFORMATION

  • Short Description

    The Center for Education and Lifelong Learning of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki welcomes you to the CINEMATOGRAPHY WORKSHOP a 24 -hour course live at the School of Film, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

    The Cinematography Workshop is an intensive three day workshop which focuses on the art and technique of cinematography. Upon completion the participant will receive a certificate of attendance and 1 ECTS unit.

    The Scientific Director of the Program is Peter Salapatas, professor of cinematography at the School of Film, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Apart from teaching, Peter Salapatas is an active cinematographer having shot with many feature films and short films. He is also a member of the G.S.C (Greek Society of Cinematographers)

  • Aim and objectives

    The Workshop aims at getting familiar the participants with the art and technique of cinematography. Special attention will be given to how Cinematography works hand in hand with directing as means to enhance visual storytelling.

  • Learning Outcomes

    Upon completion of the course, participants will become familiar with the technique of cinematography as well as the art of cinematography. They will be exposed to various lighting techniques as well as cameras.

  • Target audience

    The program is addressed to people with basic photography skills as well as to those with more advanced cinematography skills.

    A basic knowledge of photography and cameras would be helpful.

  • Format

    The workshop is a three day hands on intensive workshop that will take place at the School of Film, Thessaloniki Greece.

  • Modules

    Course Description

    The workshop is divided in three 8 hour days.

    FIRST DAY

    • Basic familiarity with the equipment. (2 hours)
    • How to light a face. Lighting for interiors in a number of aesthetic approaches like film noir, comedy, dramatic lighting and flat lighting).
    • Placing the camera and the importance it has in supporting the story.
    • Operating camera skills.

    SECOND DAY

    • Filming of a number of scenes with one or more actors. The filming will be of a complete scene giving emphasis on the position of the camera as well as the lighting aesthetics.
    • Emphasis will be given on the blocking of a scene as well.

    THIRD DAY

    • Filming scenes in exterior conditions.
    • Ways to control sunlight as well as mixing artificial and natural light.

  • Liabilities

    Obligations of Trainees: Attendance all three days

    1. Participation in the programs of K.E.DI.BI.M. of the AUTH implies full acceptance of the program’s Study Guide and the Internal Regulation of Operation of the K.E.DI.BI.M. of the AUTH.
    2. The presence/attendance of trainees in the educational programmes is mandatory. In the programmes which are realized in physical presence, as in those implemented using the modern method of tele-education, the study is generally mandatory and the limit of absences cannot exceed 10% of the prescribed training hours. The monitoring of asynchronous education is implemented according to the study schedule set by each programme.
    3. For the successful completion of the programme, the participants should:
    4. not exceed 10% absences of the scheduled training hours
    5. have passed the exams
    6. have paid all the tuition fees by 20/06/2025

    Rights of Trainees:

    1. Trainees are informed by the Department of Administrative Support of K.E.DI.BI.M. for all kinds of information related to the operation of the Centre.
    2. Trainees are supported electronically through the educational platform by the trainers, as part of the educational process, to resolve questions and provide clarifications related to the thematic units of the programme.
    3. Trainees have the right to apply for the interruption/termination of their programme attendance and a refund of their tuition fees, in accordance with the provisions of par. 12.9 hereof.
    4. Students’/Trainees’ work is protected under the Copyright Regulations/Provisions.
  • Certificate

    After successful completion of the program, participants receive a Certificate of Completion, which is issued by the Center for Education and Lifelong Learning of the AUTH and signed by the President of the Center.
